Software that outlives its makers.
We are an independent studio making sharp tools for deep reading, note-taking and writing in many languages. No venture capital, no lock-in, no accounts, no telemetry.
When a tool needs permission from a remote company just to open your own notebook, it isn't a tool. It's a lease.
How we got here
Over fifteen years, software drifted from tools you own to subscriptions that watch you. Reading notes got trapped behind private APIs. Note apps bent toward ad models. Everyday tools stopped working offline.
When a cloud company pivots or shuts down, years of highlights and study notes can disappear with it. We watched researchers and students lose work that way.
So we chose local-first.
Fundaments.work tools run on your own device and keep your work in plain Markdown, standard SQLite and readable config files. Formats that will still open decades from now, with or without us.
What we make
Three tools today, each small enough to understand and built to keep working.
